I use almost exclusively gum paste when I do my decorations and the difference from sugar paste is that gum paste dries faster, which is an advantage when you for example want to make thin petals.

Cutters and silicone molds are ideal for making beautiful cake decorations quick and easy. To simply get the decorations out of the cutter and silicone molds I usually powder the mold/cutter lightly with a little cornstarch. Then I wait to take out the decoration until it has started to dry a little bit, otherwise it is easy to bend or break the it or it doesn’t want to come out of the cutter/mold.

I was very pleasantly surprised. It needs to be kneaded thoughroughly (more than regular gum paste) before shaping/roll out, but then it is very easy to work with. Previously, I have gone after and painted with gold paint when I wanted gold decorations but it easily becomes messy or an uneven surface. So this product is really something I would recommend to spruce up your cake decorations in a simple way!

In the next post of the Cake School, I’ll be writing about cake fillings 🙂
Tack för alla tips! Undrar om du kan berätta om tyllarna du använder och vart man kan köpa?
